So, it's soon to be 6 years since I had a total thyroidectomy (RIP you beautiful thyroid) and it wasn't as simple as I was first told.
It's been a long, hard, turbulent, lonely and dedicated journey to get where I am today. 2.5 years of figuring out my body's needs & fine tuning each area, including nutrition, stress management, meditation, mindfulness, exercise and supplements to support the process.
Through a functional medicine approach with many lifestyle changes, I have overcome, or learnt how to manage the many symptoms that followed (debilitating migraines, restless legs, brain fog, nerve pain, muscle spasm, insomnia, heightened stress, anxiety, depression, chronic fatigue, poor memory & weight gain). Yes weight gain is last, because this was never a priority in my journey. Yes an eventual goal, but this so happened to follow naturally while addressing the route cause of my symptoms.
Hypothyroid symptoms can be changed, they can be stopped and they can be reversed. I regret following advice & being allowed to have it removed. However, hindsight is a wonderful thing, so now, I continue to move forward & hopefully help ease someone else's pain or suffering along the way.
