In sports, winning a world championship is the pinnacle. You train and sacrifice so much. You dedicate your LIFE - heart, soul, and mind, to a cause. And finally, after years and years of trials, failures, and setbacks, you finally make it. You win the biggest prize you can achieve. Now you ask yourself if you’re satisfied, and the answer is no. You want to get back, you want to do it again, and again and again and again. Then that’s when it hits you that even though it is such an amazing feat, and is very admirable, it is not something that satisfies. It’s just a title
John 6:35 says “Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.”
In Christ there is a different kind of satisfaction. A satisfaction that warms your SOUL. It does not quench your lust for power, fame, and achievement, but rather it takes it away. But what it does quench is the feeling of brokenness, emptiness, and purposelessness. And perhaps the reason for that is because Christ has quenched the biggest problem of man, justice for our sins of which causes our emptiness. In Christ, life gets a different meaning because everything takes a step back knowing the biggest treasure in our hearts is not something that we achieved, but rather the treasure, who is Christ, achieved in capturing our hearts. He is not something that can be taken away, because He is not of our own achievement.
To all the athletes, pursue the dream! But remember, sports is not the biggest thing in life. Seek Christ who satisfies
